It goes without saying that social media is a driving force in our lives. And while we may see new platforms and preferences surface almost daily, the tried-and-true Instagram app is still a favorite.
Wondering where you can find the most Instagrammable backdrops during your Gaylord, Michigan getaway? We’re here to help and have a list of 10 favorite spots to take a selfie or, what the heck, go old school and ask someone to snap a picture for you!
In no particular order…
The Ice Tree
The self-proclaimed “World’s Largest Ice Tree” has a been a Gaylord staple since the 1950s. We can only imagine how many people have stopped by for a photographic memento over the years.
45th Parallel Sign
While the 45th parallel may be an imaginary line circling the Earth, we think it’s worth taking a look at! Pop on over to one of our 45th parallel signs for a photo taken halfway between the North Pole and equator.
5 Rivers Fountain
Our county’s high elevation makes it the perfect place for rivers to run – five, in fact. The headwaters of the Black, Manistee, AuSable, Pigeon and Sturgeon Rivers all bubble up from the ground in Gaylord. Our Courthouse lawn has a lovely fountain symbolizing these waterways.
4-Season Mural
Speaking of artistic touches, don’t miss the new mural on the side of the Gaylord Visitor’s Center and Chamber of Commerce. Featuring 4 seasons of up north fun, this newly designed piece embraces our “All Outdoors” attitude!
The Gaylord Car
Since you’re in the neighborhood…now is a great time to step inside the Visitor Center, pick up the latest copy of our Visitor Guide, and take a cruise down memory lane. Produced right just a mile or so south of downtown, the Gaylord 30 car is the last of its kind. In case you were wondering, yes, she still runs. Each summer, this vintage gem faithfully leads our beloved Alpenfest parade.
Greetings from Gaylord Mural
New and highly noteworthy is the Greetings from Gaylord mural on the side of Brennan’s Up North coffee shop. Adding an outdoorsy motif with a vibrant burst of color to our Alpine Village, this postcard-style painting is already drawing in fans from near and far.
Big Buck Brewery
A more modern Gaylord landmark, the 45-feet tall Big Buck Brewery beer bottle broke onto the craft beer scene before there was a craft beer scene. Since opening in the early 1990s, and now under new ownership, Big Buck has been serving up craft brews including Buck Naked, Kayak Attack and Michigan Sunrise.
City Elk Park
Photos with your friends are fantastic, but how about a photo with some elk? Gaylord’s City Elk Park, just a few blocks from downtown, makes capturing a candid moment with wildlife simple. These magnificent creatures are more than happy to pose for photo opps.
Golf Courses
Hoping for a more manicured background? The Gaylord Golf Mecca offers a pristine and polished collection of photo-worthy greens for you to choose from. Even if you’re not a golfer, stop by one of our 16 courses for a drink on the deck or patio and take in some breathtaking views.
Isabella’s Copper Pot Wings
If we’re going by fan favorites, then we saved the best for last. Visitors to our area LOVE wandering across the widespread wings adorning Isabella’s Copper Pot. We see the photos regularly and if you’re going to make just one selfie stop, this should be it.
