Hello KOO Families and Friends-
It’s time for a Kids Outdoors family hike! This time we will hike on Sunday August 4th at the Louis M Groen Nature Preserve near Johannesburg MI.
If you haven’t visited the Groen Preserve recently, we are meeting at the new entrance with the impressive gates and long driveway. It’s at 10950 Hetherton Rd, just east of the blinker light in Johannesburg. Enter the gate and follow KOO signs to our meeting point.
Our time will be from Noon to 2:00, and please note that this is a Sunday afternoon hike instead of our usual Saturday morning.
As always,
- Free
- Parents/ caregivers, you are with your kids at all times.
- Our focus and activities are for young kids up to age eight, but older siblings and family members are very welcome.
- We take an approach of ‘Explore, Discover, Enjoy, Learn’ to encourage curiosity and creativity.
- Water will be available. Bring your own water bottles (hydration so important on these hot days) and any snacks you’d want.
- Dress for the weather that day; we go rain or shine (except for unsafe extremes). Some of this trail is in the open, so have the sun protection that you like.
Other details:
- We’ll do a hands-on activity or two, then walk on one of the newer trails to see what we will discover! Groen staff will help guide us and join in the fun.
- We do modest distances and adjust our pace depending on kids’ interest etc. If your family wants to head back earlier than the group, that is just fine.
- These are natural surface trails – earth and grass mostly. Good for walking or carrying a child in a backpack, not as good for strollers or wagons.
- BUT Groen has accessible paths and areas for strollers etc, too – check it out.
- Our KOO time is from noon to 2:00, but there is lots to see at the Preserve- they have other trails, logging Big Wheel, picnic tables, and more. So you may want to come early or stay after.
- The Preserve has excellent bathroom facilities.
Information is also on our Facebook event page for this hike. See KOO Hike at Groen Preserve | Facebook If you have questions, you can post them there, or email us and we’ll answer as quickly as we can.
Finally, a flyer is attached – feel free to share it.
We look forward to seeing your family for fun summertime exploring.
